As the legend of Naoya Inoue grows, his quest to be the greatest pound per pound of all time forces him to move up weight classes, having obliterated champions. He entered a world boxing championship series to face the best of the best in 2018 and won the tournament in the finals against Nonito Donaire, an all-time great as well. Then, he unified the 118-pound championship by becoming the first Asian pugilist to unify the division, meaning he has all four major belts.
I am a big fan of Naoya Inoue because he is the prototypical boxer who does everything well. He has great power, great foot movement, great balance, great speed, great intelligence, great adaptability, etc. If you were a coach, he would be the perfect example of what you want your fighter to be. His great adaptability was showcased in his fight against Luis Nery, a great fighter who had only one previous loss. Naoya was knocked down in the first round. He composed himself and slowly started to break down Nery round by round by confusing him and attacking his body with some of the hardest blows I've ever seen.
Sam Goodman, the IBF 122-pound mandatory challenger, is rumored to be Naoya's next opponent. Unless something changes drastically, it would most likely be him sometime this year.
